Michael Millet
Certified Evidence Based Chen Style Tai Chi and Qigong Instructor
Michael Millet has been practicing Buddhist/Zen meditation for over 20 years. He received his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the Louisiana State University Health Center in May 2010.
He completed a Capstone (thesis) on the Benefits of Tai Chi: Improving Balance in Balance Impaired Seniors. His study was on display at the National Physical Therapy Convention in fall of 2020 in New Orleans.
In 2011 he attended CCE course on the Benefits of Tai Chi in Physical Therapy Practice. It was there he met Dr. Susan Welsh, PT, PHD, who would become his Tai Chi teacher in New Orleans. She introduced him to the teachings of Chinese Tai Chi Master, Dr. Yang Yang: Evidence Based Chen Style Tai Chi and Qigong Program.
In 2015, he deepened his practice of Tai Chi, started to assist Susan with CCE courses, leading to In 2017 he was accepted to Dr. Yang Yangβs 5 day intensive Tai Chi program in Scranton, PA for beginners: Evidence Based Chen Style Tai Chi and Qigong Program. In 2018, he attended Dr. Yang Yangβs camp focused on the second 12 forms of his 48 form, with focus on sleep and anxiety. In 2019, he attended Dr. Yang Yangβs camp focusing his second 12 forms of his 48 form with focus on chronic back pain and stress.
After passing the Tai Chi and Qigong written tests in 2019, he passed the demonstration exams and called for Dr. Yang Yangβs Evidence Based Chen Style Tai Chi and Qigong Program in early March, just before the pandemic. He then started teaching at a park near his house in Algiers Point in May 2020 on Saturday and Sunday mornings at 9am. During the pandemic he studied Dr. Yang Yangβs 48 form DVD and learned the entire 48 form.
In May 2023, Michael began offering an indoor class, teaching Tai Chi at The Mind Body Collective in Algiers Point at 627 Opelousas Avenue on Saturday mornings at 9:00am.
